Islington played a hard fought game to draw in the inaugural Interschool Soccer Friendly against Tighes Hill. The game was called to assist in both schools' transition program and to develop stronger links between schools in the Callaghan cluster.
The game started strongly with Tighes Hill leading the scoring and dominating early play. Islington fought back and equalised early in the second half, subsequently restricting Tighes Hill to their own defensive line.
Despite some red hot attack from strikers Byiringiro and the flying Saidi brothers, Tighes Hill valiantly prevented a peppering of shots at goal.
Eventually, full time was called and a 1-all draw declared. Referee Greg Fullford declared that the game was one of the more skilled and sportingly played that he could recall.
Special mention must go to the valiant defence of Islington players Caitlin Woodhouse and Sophie Tripodi, the attacking power of the Cooper brothers and especially the goal keeping of Bailey and David.
Well played, Islington! Stay tuned for details of further matches and check out the action pics in the gallery.
