Africa Day, held today at Islington Public School, keeps getting bigger and better.
Today's celebration of African culture and diversity, hosted by the Hunter African Communities Council, was a triumph.
Today's festival featured a showcase of African culture, dance, music, art, fashion and mouth-wateringly delicious food.
Most importantly, today's celebration highlighted the terrific energy, diversity and richness that our African community brings to Newcastle and the Hunter.
Special thanks must go to Islington Public School's P&C, headed by the indefatigable Toni Worgan, for their fundraising efforts, as well as our community members (notably Bridie Watt, facepainter extraordinaire) who contributed items for the IPS stall.
State and Federal MPs Tim Crakanthorp and Sharon Claydon opened the event and joined with HACC executives Herbert Gatamah, Zac Ekandi and Shakila Kader in making the day one of the premier cultural events on the Islington Public School (and Newcastle) calendar.
Thank you to all attendees, our African community, and the Islington school community.
Beauty rich and rare!
